With D-proline as the reducing and capping agent, fluorescent gold nanoclusters were rapidly prepared (D-Pro@AuNCs) within 10 min at 100 C. In the present of gold nanoparticles, the fluorescence of D-Pro@AuNCs was remarkably quenched. Interestingly, based on the electrostatic interaction between anticancer drug Raltitrexed and gold nanoparticles induced fluorescence ?turn-on? principle, a high selective assay for detection of Raltitrexed was established with the probe associating the fluorescence emission at 435 nm. The fluorescence intensity of D-Pro@AuNCs linearly correlated with the concentration of Raltitrexed in the range from 5.0 mumol/L to 40.0 mumol/L (R2 = 0.999) and the limit of detection was 1.9 mumol/L. Further, after Raltitrexed was abdominal injected in rats, a metabolic approach was constructed with the prepared fluorescent probe. It showed great potential of AuNCs-based sensing probes for application in analysis of serum anticancer drugs.

Thermodynamic measurements of DeltaH and AS upon PNA DNA duplex formation show that the introduction of an (S,S)-cyclohexyl unit in the PNA does indeed decrease the entropy loss, indicating a more conformationally constrained structure. However, the more favorable entropic contribution is balanced by a reduced enthalpic gain, indicating that the structure constrained by the cyclohexyl group is not so well suited for DNA hybridization.

Further, most of the naphthalene derivative of the present invention has no strongly polar group in its molecule and thus can also be used for active matrix driving. Accordingly, the liquid crystal composition comprising the naphthalene derivative of the present invention is extremely useful as a practical liquid crystal composition, particularly a liquid crystal composition which can operate within a wide temperature range and requires a high speed response and a low voltage driving.

Their complexation with Ru(bpy)2Cl2 afforded the corresponding Ru complexes as model compounds for electrochemical DNA labeling. The same compounds were also prepared directly by cross-coupling of 9-benzyl-8-bromoadenine with Ru complexes of the alkynes and boronic acids. Both approaches are compared in terms of potential applications for labeling of nucleic acids. The crystal structures of two Ru complexes were determined by X-ray diffraction. The electrochemistry of the model purines bearing the phenanthroline or bipyridine ligands and the Ru complexes was studied by means of cyclic or square-wave voltammetry with carbon paste and mercury electrodes. The experimental redox potentials of the title compounds were compared with quantum chemical calculations. A very good agreement between experiment and theory was obtained, with a standard deviation of 0.13 V. It was shown that theoretical calculations can be of a limited predictive power for new Ru II complexes, though it was difficult to reproduce differences smaller than 0.05 V. Several compounds of this series exhibited a considerable cytostatic effect and activity against the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 2007.

Herein we report the design and successful catalytic application of modified Trost-ligands in asymmetric allylic alkylation (AAA) reactions.
